    can I hot wire my gs750 ?

Hi all Im not trying to steal any thing here .just fire up my basket case 76 gs 750 ..is there a safe way to do this? the wiring harness is mostly yhere but the complete ignition switch tach speedo etc is gone.. the bike cranks fine with the starter ..is there a way I can jump spark to the coils from a battery safely ?? is the stock ignition system with the points on this bike worth keeping ? I have seen an electronic ignition for this bike offered is that the best route or stock ?
its a long term project I fear as I need a lot of parts but thats half the fun i guess ..any one else with the same bike? im pretty sure its a 76 or 77 finding a manual would be great I have been looking a lot for one ....is there any specific book thats better than the other ie chiltons vrs clymers? this is a great site and im glad to be a member .. thanks in advance for any reply

Run a wire from the main fuse to the ignition fuse, that worked on my 1000 when I had a bad connection. Only for testing purposed though!
Electronic ignition is a good upgrade, you can buy new aftermarket for big $$$ or use a stock ignition of a later year (80 and up) bike, electronic spec coils need to be used with the ignition.

congrats on the bike it is a good one, as far as a year 77 is the first model year although the sticker on the frame may list 76 as the year of production. try to find the clymer manual, it is a must have for a bike like this especially since many mechanics won't even touch somthing that old. If you can afford it, I would go to the electric ignition. Not sure how to hotwire it, but gauge clusters can be found pretty readily on ebay (and they should have the ignition swith on them).
