Reminder how important not having carb air leaks are

I have a 1981 gs 850g that I recently pulled the air box off. Beforehand it was running great, smooth, started great and plents of power. When I put it back together I was in a hurry and did not really check if the airbox was on totaly correctly. It was getting dark and hard to see the #2 and 3 carbs.

When I rode it next, it was hard to start and really did not have alot of power.

Tonight, I looked and 2 out of 4 of the intakes were leaking air (the boots were not over the end of the carbs). I put them as they should be and one slight bump of the starter and she fired right up. No backfiring (like it was) and no cranking needed for more than 1 second. (I had to crank for about 1 minute before). It idles very smooth again as well. I did not ride it because it is raining but I am sure the power will be back as well.

I thought fellow GS'ers who do not realize how important this is should know my experience. Maybe I can save them some trouble.
