Another handy hint is to photocopy the wiring diagram, but shrink it to either half or third size. Go over it with texta to do the colours, then have it laminated and leave it under your seat. Keeps it weather proof and it's there if you need it.
Also, electrical faults seem to come at night when it's harder to work on. I have a small Mag Lite which I wrapped some electrical tape around near the end. It makes it easy to hold in your mouth, leaving both hands free.

I got a wiring harness for my '82 1100E from Bikebandit. They may not have one for all models but I'm sure they can cover most. Cost me $180, worth every penny.

Besides ordering it, you could try a local marine shop for watertight connectors in various styles.

Be sure to smear some dielectric grease on those connectors too.

If you want to be as anal retentive about your connections as me, you can also solder the connectors on.

I also wired in an ATC fuse as I feel they are much more reliable.

If you google MOLEX, they have a wide variety of connectors in many different applications. VERY high quality. We use them exclusively on our aircraft....and my GS!

                      Molex crimpers

I tried some at a local parts place (the oddly named B&E Electronics: the place where burglars shop for electronics I suppose?). But could not figure out how to make a crimp. The counter guy was no help.

Am I just a spaz, or is there some advice you can pass on as to how to form those crimps?

Someting like this, there are many diff types, some are better, all will work. Then local auto parts store will have a set of cheapies that sould do you fine.

                            Connectors? Need advice

I'm new to the GS resources, and new to the GS world period. I recently bought an 83 GS 750ES. Things were good until my ride to work this morning. Out of nowhere, my tach quit working, along with all my lights except the headlight. No turn indicators on instrument cluster, no gear indicator, no neutral indicator.. Nothing? Any one have any ideas where to start trying to track down the issue?

You need to post this in the Technical Forum. Except for the tach I would tell you to start with the fuses. But the tach is mechanically driven. That it would go out the same time as the lights makes no sense.

Repost in the tech section and we will get to the bottom of it.

I'm partial to LED headlamps that wrap around the head with an elastic strap. Leaves both hands free. Runs at least 20 hours on one set of AAA batteries. Can buy at Target, Wally world, etc.
