    Polishing shortcut

I just remembered this while reading another post:

When I lived in McAllen, there was a guy located near a local truck stop that did nothing but polish chrome, stainless, aluminum, etc. Very fast and did quality work. He specialized in semis from up north, where the salt from the roads would corrode metals very quickly. A buddy of mine bought a set of rims for his Camaro at a garage sale for $30, structurally sound but dull and corroded. For less than $100 this guy had them looking better than new. I talked to him and he said that guys like him were fairly common around major trucking areas. So if you know of a fairly large truck stop nearby, you might drop in and ask if there is such a guy locally. If you take the part off and clean it up a bit first, it probably won't cost that much, or he might be able to do it right on the bike. When I talked to him, the local guy said that clear coat and cast parts were no problem, he had all the equipment needed to make it look like it came from the factory with a mirror finish.
