That's how they got those little skinny tires on lowriders to seat where the sidewalls are pooched out way more than intended.

So I sprayed hair spray (which I use for my potato cannon) all over the inside and lit the hair spray and aimed at the tire. Needless to say, the next step was buying a new tire. It blew the bead right off the rim and melted the bead of the tire really bad. Wish I had a video camera.Doug aka crag antler

Be VERY CAREFULL with the amount and type of fluid used. I have heard of wheels cracking and actually breaking when getting carried away with fluid.

A guy I know was almost killed whilst fitting a tyre recently. It was a 'split rim' (truck) and the steel locking bead actually popped off the rim and hit him in the chest and mouth.

It works fine in the summer heat.. Same principle that makes your car go.. Air & fuel ignite and expand.. We used to do that when we roll a tire off the bead wheelin in the dunes with the tires bagged to 10 psi.
Starting fluid (eather) works best and it goes easier with the tire standing up.

Done this for years with big truck tires, car tires and even atv tires. Never tried a motorcycle tire though. Use ether "starting fluid" spray it in the rim all the way around the bead, stand back and use the spray can as a torch to ignite it. just make sure you aren't down wind. You have to put air to the valve stem immediately or the ether will burn out and suck the bead back off the rim. But I didn't tell anyone to do this.

Whenever I've had to mount tires manually, I've found using a ratchet strap around the center of the tire and slowly adding air and releasing tension on the strap works relatively well...tad bit safer I think.
