If your panel does not have an inconspicuous slot or hole, use a small key ring or make a loop out of another cable tie. Secure it to the inside of the panel with a big gop of goop, the new age duct tape.

Side panel retention
Here is an idea for retainig side panels. On my 850 there are two slots at the top of each panel that are used to secure it to the bike. I run a long, thin cable tie through one of the slots (the rear one) and then around the adjacent frame rail.
If your panel does not have an inconspicuous slot or hole, use a small key ring or make a loop out of another cable tie. Secure it to the inside of the panel with a big gop of goop, the new age duct tape.Believe in truth. To abandon fact is to abandon freedom.
Nature bats last.

For GS's that have pin mount side-covers, drill a small hole at the end of the pin through the shaft (pick a pin that you can reach from behind once the cover is installed)......use a pin-vise or dremel. Once the cover is installed, slip a cotterpin or hitchpin through the hole. No more flying off covers.
