Hose clamps on boots
the hose clamps on boots is not the tip. But not to over tighten them. The factory clamps I guess can stretch over time because mine had no clamping power. I don't think they ever got as tight as the hose clamps can. Factory clamps were also rounded on the sides where the hose clamps can be on the sharp side. I have to get 2 new boots (motor side) to replace my pretty much brand new boots that I over tighten and the clamp cut the boot!!! The motor side seems quite a bit softer rubber compound than the air box side.Tags: None

The factory clamps are still available for less than $3 each...1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

got these boots on ebay with no clamps. Hose clamps less than a dollar each including shipping delivery time 10 mins. What ever clamps you want is fine with me I was just telling people because many people on here are telling people just get hose clamps.

I guess the real tip here would be to spend the extra buck or so per clamp and purchase the correct clamps for your boots so that there is no chance of cutting them, no matter how much you tighten them....sigpic

i have been doing this for years now and i only cut one boot.
the trick is to have the brains NOT too cut it by over tighten them!
there not head bolts.... there rubber. i use just a lil sealer in the inside
of them and tighten them to the point i can see the sealer start to come out. the sealer is to help them seal but it realy a way to see your getting the boot to seal all the way around . the clamp is doing all the real work . so when you see the sealer coming out and you can't move the boot stop there let them set for a hour the install the carb's and test run the bike.
oh and the boot i cut was from me not supporting the carbs after i removed the air box.. carbs that sag or are unsupported will rip over time.
