    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

cheap spray booth option.

A cheap way to make a spray booth. Probably not new, but should work well.

Vent Vent Vent !!!!! Did the same thing except the whole garage had to be done, used (2) carpet blowers (Big blue ones..) Just remember all that overspray goes somewhere Ie..Floor...cars outside (wet floor if it's a big job) I forgot what I painted but DO remember having to buff out 2 cars in the neigborhood. LOL

I do plan on making a vent somewhere, breathing is kind of important.
The floor doesnt matter if it gets overspray, but i was going to wet it down anyway to avoid dust.
 
Great job sir.

I have the same kind of setup only half size. I made 3 4'x4' frames out of 1'x2" and stapled big trash bags to them to form walls. I join them in a C shape with spring clamps and set the 'booth" up on a table made of an old door over my saw horses. I cover the top with another large trash bag and leave it open on one side.

As I'm only painting bike stuff, I find it big enough and easy to setup and store. It has a lot of ventilation being open on one side but it still traps the overspray.

I'll be clearcoating the 'tins" soon so I'll post a pic then.

As the others have mentioned, it is always a good idea to move all your toys outside and cover everything else as that spray can travel. a few years back I made the mistake of trying to paint a frame in my basement workshop and even with covers there was overspray everywhere. Don't forget to get a proper rated and good quality mask as that stuff can clog your lungs as I'm sure you know.

Now lets see what you're painting.

Mine has become semi permanent or at least seasonal; One more paint job for teh GSXR and it will come down. This year I put a peak in the roof as it hat to get through the rainy season. I would suggest making them as big as you can and I alway wet the floor but get plenty of spray on the floor. I'm hoping that the power washer will get it all off of the concrete.

If you are looking for a great way to get the overspray out of the air, ask your local auto paint store to get you a sticky sided booth door filter, and secure it over the intake side of one of those square box fans with duct tape around the edges, sticky side out.

It will grab almost all of the overspray and hold it in the filter. You can even do both sides to make sure. Works great, and easy to clean up. In a pinch, one could use a large furnace filter element, but it won't work as well. The sticky filters are usually 8-10 dollars a piece for the high quality ones.

+10 x 1000 !! Two part paint (activator) will turn your lungs to potato chips.
A 3M dust mask aint gonna get it...

i was going to say VENT as well bro!!! hahaha
not just to breath but if your paint doesnt get enough air ,it will not dry right!
 
Thanks for the ideas everyone, i will look at a filter today i think.
I will probably vent it out the back door, theres a big intersection there and a lot of Harleys that give me the sh1ts either early in the morning or late at night, so that would probably be the best place for overspray;)

Maybe some of the GS cool will rub off on them that way. :D

why all the HD's about? I thought the gold coast was racer's rest, flames on the zimmers etc... I'd imagined all these way cool 10% metal knurly old men on turbo'd rudges and such.

Nah, too many old blokes with cash(albeit mostly pretend) to flash. They either ride Harleys to the coffee shop, or they don the lycra and ride their racing bicycles to the coffee shop.
I dont know why, but this seems to be what happens?
Sometimes we see the race car drivers around, also Doohan and a couple of others. But most of the race car drivers seem to have Harleys!
 
hey i love harleys ,but cant afford 1 :-(, and the guys that ruin it are dicks anyway ,be careful i wouldnt want to have to pay for a paint job on theres!:mad:, or fight the local a$$hole chapter hehehe:twistedevil:

yup looks just about like mine..I took the plastic and duct taped it to the floor so i could sweep up the beads easily for screening and reuse. You can alos put a small fan in one of the corners blowing out to create a gentle negative air situation and you will have a basic downdraft spray booth as well for painting tanks and such.

To get overspray off of concrete you can take that 4-5 ounces of left-over battery acid from filling a non-sealed battery, gently pour it into a gallon of so of water, and very carefully brush it on the overspray area with a shop broom.

***Make sure none of it gets on anything you don't want to etch with the acid, like your eyes, fresh paint job, wife's car, etc...***

Once it has stopped bubbling, soak it up with some absorb-all and dispose of properly.

-or-

For a more environmentally friendly way, get some snow from the driveway, and scrub it into the overspray with a shop broom. More effort, but works...eventually.
