Brazing tach cable
Has anyone tried that? My tach cable broke and me being me I order the part but wanted to see if I could fix it. I got my oxy/acetylene kit and went at it. I got a 3/32 bronze rod, set the gauges at 3-3 on a #1 harris tip (the smallest I have). I set the flame really small and lightly carburated. The entire braze was about 1/4 inch and I put very little heat at the wire and mostly let the brazing rod melt and drop in it. after that I made sure it was straight, gave it a quick run thru the grinding disk and back to the bike. I did a quick run just to see if it held anything, about 15 miles and it looks good. I will keep it there until it breaks, lets see how long that is... Input anyone...Tags: None

As long as it's not in a severe bend it will last a long time. I'm assuming you had the cable very clean before the repair. Nothing wrong with that!

Didn't thought about it but will write down the current mileage.
Yes, it was cleaned then greased again.

Nessism, I had my doubts that it was going to work at all so I grabbed them rods. I have quite a few other types of brazing rods but they are lost somewhere in that black hole I call my shed.
The odo is 45036 after the trial which was not many miles so I won't eve count it. We shall see. Just for the sake of testing I won't switch to the new until this one breaks. I only need the tach to warm it up but I know the bike and can tell if I'm way over 2000. Plus I have a handheld digital tach if it did came down to that. Tomorrow I'm taking the gf to work which is around 80 miles round trip. Might do some errands too. Will be back when it breaks or every now and then.

It broke right near the drive unit end....?
I had mine break a couple weeks ago, and I was pondering repairing it. But got the replacement before I tried any repair.

I fixed the end of my buddy's Cushman scooter clutch cable with my MIG welder. The "thingamobob" that sit's on the end of the cable and fits into an assembly on the clutch pedal (yes, foot clutch on the old scooter) popped off, and I decided "on a whim" to try and fix it.
I think the cable is now in its second year (with some extensive riding) and hasn't broken yet, hehe! Oh, by the way, it was a brand new cable (old stock) when it broke during installation. He couldn't return it because it had been sitting on a shelf for years.
Necessity ... the mother of invention! I didn't expect it to last five minutes but was pleasantly surprised when it turned into a permanent fix.
