Tail rack for an '83 550E

    Is there any such thing?

One thing I'm finding about the 550 is that there is a lack of storage space under the seat and in the tail. I have fabric saddle bags and a tank bag but they are a tad bulky for daily usage. I don't like the tank bag in front of my either and I don't want to wear a back pack.

I thought if I had a tail rack, I could mount a small bag and carry the tool kit and have a place for gloves and shades and such when I stop.

I like the one Pete fabbed up but I just wondered if there was a stock one for these bikes.

    Cheers,

There was an aftermarket one manufactured by GSM. I had one on my '85 550ES.

They have come up on ebay once in a while, but very rarely.

Thanks for the pic. As luck would have it, I remembered I had a box of take-offs from my old XS650 and in it was exactly what I'm after.

It will need brackets to fit it to the grab bar and it will need painting or powder coating but that may just need to wait until the winter refurb project.
I'll post when I have figured out how its going together.

          Thanks guys,
