    easier noise detection

not sure if this has bin posted or if any of you know about it. but sometimes ill hear a noise in an engine (not just on bikes) but dont know what it is. i use a 2 foot stick, press it against an area of the engine then put thumb on the end and press my ear against my thumb. you can hear the internals much better. today i located noise in my clutch by doing this. try it!

I've used this trick with a big screwdriver to check for alternator bearing noise on my car. Works well and free - can't beat that.

I use a long section of vacuum hose. One end in your ear, the other pointed at the engine. Its half a stethoscope.... 8)

They make a special stethiscope just for this. Looks like the same thing the Doc uses but it has a long aluminum tube protruding from a collector/amplifyer. Not sure if you can buy them anymore but I borow my fathers. FYI Dost use a regular stethiscope and if you do be smart and keep it away from the exaust or exaust valvetrain or you will be sorry
