    Carb fuel level tool

    I thought this was a brilliant improvisation for a single use tool. It won't pass the test of time but works fine until the tubing gets hard or is affected by the gasoline. Oh, also if the carbs are polished to a highly smooth mirror like finish, it gets tough to get the clamp to stay. Definitely not an in-the-garage type job. If you don't want to wait for the mail order tool to arrive or don't have junk carbs on hand for parts to drill and glue one together, this is an option.

    I borrowed this setup from Andy Vanice, another member here in town. He has been looking for a vented screw or bolt with the same thread as the carb drain plug but they're tough to find. I went looking as well and called him yesterday to see what he came up with. There are three different sizes of tubing here and a little brass insert used for poly water line connections.

    He's a pretty clever fellow. He made a set of four and I watched as he set his fuel level, then borrowed the setup for mine and a GS 550 I've been tinkering with.

        That looks great. I've been just using the Motion Pro tool, and haven't had problems, so haven't been motivated to go with something better.

          good idea, but you are supposed the check the fuel level with the carbs fitted and the engine idling.

            I did see that in the manual. Have you ever done a reading on the bike with it running, then another with it on the bench for comparison's sake?

              yes, the level drops slightly with the engine idling, however it is very awkward to check the levels with the carbs fitted, especially 2 and 3 carbs.

                On that set, it's going to be REALLY hard to check the level on the #3 carb.

                  and #4, lol. easy on a twin, not so easy on a 4cyl.

                    Yeah, maybe the next model could have a 90 degree fitting for that purpose.
                    I'd like to see what the correct tool looks like. Do two of those have 90's on them? Even the drilled through bolt model would be tough to use on 2 and 3 cyls, I suspect.
