GS1000 Bakes > GS750 brakes??

Hello all, I'm building a 750/1000 conversion bike (750 frame, 1000 motor). 750 is 78, the 1000 is a 79.

What I'm wondering is if there is any advantage to rebuilding and installing the brake calipers from the 1000 for this project. The 750 and 1k calipers appear different, but they both will bolt up, and I've already rebuilt the 750 calipers. Is there any performance advantage to the 1k calipers that I don't know about?

I'm planning to do the salty monk brake mod in the future anyway, so maybe it doesn't matter, but if one set is going on in the meantime, which should it be?

In my direct experience, the 78/79 hockey-puck calipers are definitely inferior to the 80+ calipers. Which is why my 79 bike wears 80 calipers.
However, if you're going with the SM conversion, there's no real world disadvantage to using the smaller ones for a limited time. I'd certainly not recommend them for longer term use. Fwiw, when the later calipers are rebuilt and modern pad material put in, they're quite good.

Right on, thanks man. I suppose i'll just use the ones that are rebuilt and have brake fluid in them haha
