Aluminum or stainless for caliper piston>

Need to get a caliper piston made up for my 750. Has anyone had one turned from aluminum? I was wondering if there would be any issues, other than that it will have to be stainless and I imagine that would take more time in the machine shop as it would be harder material. Chroming steel isn't an affordable option here.

Aluminium pistons are usually hard anodised to resist corrosion etc so unless you get it anodised i'd go for stainless.
I do loads of stainless and isn't hard to machine.

304 stainless is commonly available, and more resistant to corrosion than most other variants. Use carbide cutters, to avoid carbon steel machine tooling from imbedding particles into the part, which can subsequently corrode. In fact, after machining, you may want to soak the part in some acidic solution, to eat any imbedded particles away, denoted passivation.

I can't find the front pistons for the 1st gen 750 at Brakecrafters, just the rears. ebay UK does have a seller for the fronts.

Yes: I found those and they listed them but the measurements were wrong. I've been really busy but I think I have time to pull it out tomorrow and look for a machine shop to turn it for me. Pretty easy piece to make I think.

i would give them a call, the guy i spoke with was easy to work with. He might have resources to search for stuff by size the website doesn't have. I think there is a lot of cross over from brands as there are only so many sub manufacturers making parts so cross over happens.

Big Block has a single disc model front end, and I think the calipers are different from the E model.

Brakecrafters pistons are 316L, which is nicely corrosion resistant.

I'll pull it tomorrow and give them a call. I should have wrote down the measurements before I reassembled it hoping it would seal after cleaning it up. I'm sure if they can supply it their cost will be favorable to having a machine shop cut a one-of for me. I can wait a few weeks for shipping too, I have the other 2 bikes to ride.
