    Avon Roadriders

    so i have been trying to find my tire sizes in the avon roadriders...

    Front: 3.25 19in this one i can find
    Rear: 4.25 17in. this one i can't find

    i have been looking on american mototyre.com and found the front but no luck with the rear...checked google and didnt come up with anything...i also checked avon's website and didnt see anything at least not labled under 4.25 17...any help?

    I think you are going to be wanting a 110/90 17...Which I don't see available for the Roadrider..
    They do have a 120/90, but I don't know if that will work with your 650.

      well what does the 120 and the 90 in 120/190 represent...if its a matter of clearance wether it will work then i can take a few measurements

        Are you sure on that size? I show a 140/80 x 17 for the rear. I found other brands in that size, but not the Avon RR.

            I was going by the 4.25 17 he listed in the first post. The conversion charts I found said that is the same as a 110/90 17...

            So...120/90 17 should just be a bit wider, correct...

              I think you are correct SSB, I helped someone local to me install a set of Avons last year on an 82 650G and I am pretty sure that is the size he used. I think it is slightly wider than OEM but not enough to pinch the profile too much.

                  You might want to price Dennis Kirk as well. Looks like they are about 150 plus 10 for a set. They had free shipping last year so I ended up getting mine for 165 delivered.

                  I would wait for a 650G person to chime in to be sure on your tire size. I am pretty sure the OEM tire is "between" sizes available new.

                      You can probably get away with a 130 90 for the rear. 80 profile works ok as well.

                        well would a fatter 130 benefit me over a 120....and when you say 80 profile what does that mean

                          The 130 may give you more rubber on the road. Most of us run them but I have used a 120 fine too. Depends on your rim width. If you have the 2.5" rear you can run the 130 but not with the 2.15" rear rim. This should be cast into the rim itself.

                          If you're not sure then run with what you have on there now.

                          80 Profile is just a smidge shorter in sidewall height - I only mention it as it can benefit shorter riders & also sometimes can be found cheaper.

                          These tyres the profile figure is a percentage of the width. For example on a 120/90/17, the profile (90) means that the sidewall is 90% of 120mm high so in this case 108mm. 80 would be 80% of 120mm so 96mm. You can see the bike would sit about 1/2" lower.

                          130/90 = 90% of 130mm = 117mm 130/ 80 = 80% of 130mm = 104mm.

                            it makes perfect sense...i do have a 2.5 rim so i will go ahead and run the 130.... i am 6' 3" so running a 90 will be no problem...and if there is no real benefit other than making the bike shorter between 90 and 80 i will just get the 90...thanks guys

                              That sounds right. A 130/90-17 rear also should work fine too, but Roadriders usually list that for more $.
