1978 gs 750 fork oil drain out
I pulled the screw out of the fork and oil drain out on the floor. I was checking both sides because the spring was weak. I found that one side was completely dry and the other is now on the garage floor. How do I refill? does it take a complete disassembly? The manual is not very clear on this.Tags: None

bounce it up and down little to get rid of any left over oil. Then pull the caps off of the top of the forks. pour the exact amount in each fork, can't remember what that is. lotsa fork threads on here, also check out you tube.

Refer to the exact amount in your service manual.
Different bikes use different amounts of oil, so make sure it is specific to YOUR MODEL.
Also, when you pull the caps to add the oil, make sure you have something supporting the front of the bike so the springs don't go flying (too far).
Depending on your weight and riding style, you will likely want 10w or 15w FORK oil. Please do not fool around with mixing ATF and motor oil, like might be suggested in the manual, or any other concoction that might be suggested elsewhere. FORK oil has come a long way since then and will be the best thing for your bike.

I think all of them are 140mm oil height from top with fork fully compressed and no spring added.
Different volume is due to diff dia fork legs.
Adding or subtracting oil is one way to alter compression damping but you can only do it within reason. Most should stick to stock heights.1980 GS1000G - Sold
