Getting rid of the air assist and I got a question!
Hey all! I put progressive fork springs in my 82 650G and have been running them with no air. The other day I purchased some drag bars and went to swap them out. When doing this I noticed some oil up top. Curious, I went to remove the caps that cover the schrader valve for the air assist and found BOTH of them broken and barely holding on. I have no idea how this could have happened, but it did. Now, since I don't use the air assist I would like to remove these caps completely as they hinder me from dropping the front end and installing my cafe bars and my drag bars. I saw a member here Darkbane who cafe'd his 650G and he removed the top cap and replaced it with a cap with no air assist valves. I did PM him but as of yet he has not responded. I was wondering if any of you other fellow GS'rs have any suggestions as to what I may use. Are there any other GS models that do not have air assist forks that maybe I can replace the top cap with? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!Tags: None

get a couple of these at your H/W store

And they're done!
Thanks to Lynn's suggestion I went to my buddies machine shop. He is the premiere shop when it comes to round machine work, and this is what he spun up for me......cannot wait till I get home from work to try em out.

How much? He could likely sell several sets around here.
And if someone ever designs a nice little preload adjuster that fits 850G forks...
