    Front Caliper Boots

Although I have a 1981 GS550T, the bike has dual disc front brakes from a 1979 model. When I unbolted the calipers to clean them up, I found these four boots on top and bottom of the middle brace (for lack of a better word). According to the parts catalog, they are supposed to be o-rings but they look too big for that. Does anyone know what they really are so I can ask for the right thing?

    Thanks guys.

Bump...are these o-rings or are they called something else? I need to replace them but want to make sure I get the right thing.

I don't understand where they came from -picture?

If you found them in a parts fiche, I wouldn't worry about what the terminology is - lots of rubber things are called O rings, some are rectangular!

Are you SURE you have '79 brakes?

I found those boots on the '81 fiche, but not the '79. The two systems are TOTALLY different.

By the way, it's part #10 on the Front Caliper fiche, and it's part #59312-49000, sells for $6.11 at Babbitt's.

Well Steve, I will stand corrected on that but those are not the same brakes that I have on my 550T. I have the round pads which when I looked online and read the Clymers said it was from the pre-1980 bikes. Thanks for correcting me.

Scott, how about a picture of your calipers?

Here's what I have so far...

Sorry about the quality of the second picture...it's dark due to a thunderstorm but not so much that the lights give any help.

Yep, the round pads definitely look to be pre-'80, but they don't look like anything available on a 550.

The first fiche I saw that had anything close was for a '79 750, but that doesn't look quite right, either.

This is what I found for a 79 gs550l that has those pads and caliper but not the boots like I described:
