changing pads so do I do anything with rotors?

First brake pad change (front and back) on my 1980 Gs550L.

The rotors are glazed with some unevenness on its surface. I know some recommend sanding or roughing up automotive rotors when you change them.

Should I do the same on the motorcycle rotors?

You can deglaze them with some Brakecleen and a Scotchbrite

Sanding will be tough, as they are stainless steel

Or if you have a buddy with an auto shop, you can have them turned. He'll tell you they were really hard to cut.

They show no signs of warpage (no vibration when I brake) so I hate to turn them and lose some of the thickness in the process.

If they weren't glazed with an uneven surface, I wouldn't either. I've only ever done it with one rotor that lost a brakepad and really chewed the surface. I was quite happy with the results. I didn't measure the before or after thicknesses, but it looks close to the same to my eye. He took off as little as possible just to get the surface close to flat again.
