    Caliper Piston Seal

Since a painful collision (different cycle) with an auto in May (driver failed to yield), I've had little opportunity to ride my '78 GS750. I did get out a couple of weeks ago for a short ride and noticed an unpleasant noise coming for the area of the front brake caliper. It disappeared when the brake was applied. Since I'm not able to ride it without pain, I thought it best to take the caliper apart and check for problems. All brake components were carefully rebuild during my 2-year restoration. The piston came out with great difficultly. I removed the piston seal and noticed that it is beveled. Could not remember when I put it back together a year or so ago whether it was supposed to go in the grove in a certain way. Everything looks fine so I intent to reassemble but would like to know if it makes a difference which way the seal goes in.

    Thanks,
    rickt
