81 750 Fork Oil Ratio?

Does anyone know the mixture ratios for the fork oil on an 81 GS750? Thanks

100% fork oil works pretty well.

1:1, that would be 1 part fork oil to 1 part fork oil.

I usually use 1:10; 1 part fork oil to 10 parts fork oil

I think what the guys above are trying to tell you, in their own inimitable style, is to use fork oil that you can buy off the shelf. The days of mixing engine oil and ATF or whatever are long gone (though some souls still persist...). 15wt would be a good starting point.

Alright, I already have the oil and stuff so I just wanted to save money. But I guess I'll just go out and buy some. And btw, if anyone has shocks that will fit the 750 PM please. Thanks very much.

50/50 mix of ATF and 30wt motor oil is what's written in the primitive 1978 manual, left over from before fork oil came into common use.

It should probably stilll work OK.

Ok thanks, thats what I was looking for. I just figured I would save a few bucks this way. As of right now its pretty much a hard tail and has no fork oil so anything is better.

Surely you have a service manual right? What does it say? Last resort is to remove the springs from the forks, fully compress the front end, and fill with oil up to within 6 inches of the top.


Regarding fork oil on a hardtail bike, I'd just use some motor oil or ATF in the forks and call it done.

I'd just weld the sliders to the fork tubes and ride. Call it a hard nose.
Got to be twice as much ass hammering as a hard tail, lots of thrills in even the gentlest of corners.
You'll love it.

Lol well I don't intend to keep it like it is. The shocks were just shot when I got it. They'll be replaced this winter. No I don't have the service manual, so that's why I'm asking. I might have to just take it all apart though. Thanks.
