Longer rear shocks??

Hey Fellas,

I was wondering if there are longer rear shocks available for our bikes. I would like to raise the rear of the bike slightly to get it to turn better. And yes, I have lowered the forks about 1/2 but no more as the fork tops are about to hit the underside of the bars.

I am overall happy with the suspension compliance of my GS750, but the steering needs to be more responsive and raising the rear would go a long way. Thanks.

Yes. Actually you can find one inch over (really about an inch and a quarter) in various makes. Anything that was designed for a CB900/CB1100F will be roughly 14.3 inches eye to clevis and will fit your 750. I would advise you to raise your forks back up, simply because the steering will become twitchy quick with both applications. Try it with the shocks, then lower the forks to suit. 750s are light and narrow enough between the knees that the shocks will prolly do the trick alone. I know they made a very nice difference on my 1100ES. I used some MDI cheapies ($80) and actually found them stiff enough that I kept them in favor of stock length Ohlins that I had. They may be cheap, those MDIs but if you don't need much in the way of adjustment other than preload, they're quite functional and help the bike pretty good in the corners. If you're not a big guy, I'd keep em set to the first or second click to keep the back from wanting to hop in dirty corners though. Good luck!

I'll look around for a set of shocks in the 14" range. I'll do like you said and try the new shocks with the forks in the original (all the way up) position and see how it goes. Now all I gotta do is find a set at a reasonable price. I would like to keep it under $200.

The 750s up in chain drive versions all used a clevis type shock. Kinda sucks cause it makes finding good affordable performance shocks a bit tougher. All the shafties, and the 550E for some reason used an eye/eye shock.
