    Tires for my spokes

    I was searching the forums for what tires people have used on spokes and stumbled on this thread:

    Wheel sizes are 2.15 x 18 rear and 1.85 x 19 front

    I was hoping I could get a 130-80/18 on the rear but that isnt looking like a possibility (or is it?).

    For the front, I was thinking about going with a 90-90/19 but was unsure how it would effect stability, if at all. If its not worth the swap, Ill stick with the 100-9-/19 stock size

    Since my spokes use tubes, am I supposed to just use tubes in tubeless tires? I know people say you can run tubes in a tubeless tires but I have also heard that the sealing area of the tire is made differently between tubed and tubeless so they dont seat perfectly and the friction caused by the tube rubbing the inside of the tubeless tire can cause problems. Thoughts?

    Tires Im looking at are the Shinko 230 Tour Masters

    120/90/18 Rear-Stock
    130-80/18 would be ideal if I can

    100-90/19 front- stock
    90-90/19- again, not sure about overall ride

    Im not trying to be redundant on all this but the thread I posted above started talking about swapping wheels and hubs. This is for those of us who are sticking with the stock alloys. Thanks!

    I use 100/120 on my 1000 with the same sized wheels. A 130 is too wide for the 2.15 wheel. And I can't think of a good reason to go with a 90 front over a 100.

    Shinko 230's are V rated, meaning they are rated for high speeds, plus they are ridiculously cheap. I used them on one of my bikes and will again when my current tires are worn out. And tubes inside tubeless tires is fine.

      I've been putting tubes in tubeless tires for at least two decades without a problem. I've heard, but not corroborated, that doing so lowers your speed rating. In your case, that would be from a V to an H. Note: most applicable tires for our bikes are rated tube/tubeless. Note 2: It's doubtful you'll ever exceed the H rating, much less the V - they're for sustained speeds (130/149 mph)

      As for the 130/80 - no on two counts. 1st, it's too wide, as Ed notes. 2nd, if you can help it, keep the same profile front and rear (/90 is recommended) for better handling

        Currently, Im having clearance issues in the rear with my 120/90/17 hitting my under seat panel where my battery is. Since the spokes are an 18" rear, should I got to a 120-80/18 rear as well as the 80 profile for the front? Im currently looking for longer rear shocks to help with the clearance issues but didnt know If I could aid the issue by going with the lower profile tire on the larger rear rim?

          It's your call, but a stock GS1000 won't have fender clearance issues with a 120/90-18".
