    Rear shock length GS650GLD

    Hey guys,
    I am about to place an order for a pair of hagon shocks. I am in a dilema. I currently have 335 mm MDI and seem to make the bike rear end taller than OEM.
    I want to return to OEM lenght for two reasons. Center stand as it is with the 335 mm, both front and rear tires touch. Side stand, the bike seems to lean too much an feels unstable. Can anyone give me the proper lenght? 12.5, 12.75? 13?

    Hi,

    The stock shock length for your bike should be 325mm, about 12.79 inches. I guess 12.75 should be close enough.

        Usual problem with the MDI... they are so damn stiff the bike doesn't settle into the stroke at all when on the stand so makes the problem even worse.

          I was just informed that the sizes available are 320 and 330. Will 320 be too short? 330 is only 5 mm less than the MDIs, and I dont want to run into the same problem.

            320mm = 12.6"
            330mm = 13.0"
            335mm = 13.2"
            Numbers rounded slightly.
            Personally, I can't see 0.2" making that large a difference.

              I would think getting the spring rate right will make the biggest difference.... 320 - 330mm is not going to make a big a difference as you say.

              Just out of interest... what size rear wheel do you have? You're not running a 17" wheel are you? I assume your GL came with a 16" wheel so that could be adding another 1/2" to rear height there.

              You can always weld or bolt a higher foot to the bottom of your kickstand if necessary...

                Yes the spring rate may actually be the biggest factor. I am running the OEM wheel 16", which is also a SOB to find here. So, I will order the 330 with the correct spring. I only weigh 140 lbs. I thought about extending the stand, I just think it will look ugly.

                  140lb on the MDI spring... I bet it barely settles when you sit on it. I put them on a 550 for a friend. Barely moves with my 165lb on it. Not bad for him at 230 though!

                  It should be an easy swap to the 17" wheel if you wanted to do it, help with your tyre selection. should bolt right on...

                    Salty-monk, which wheel do you suggest, remember it is a 650GL. Also I just placed an order for the hagon shocks with 16kg/90 lb springs. for a more confortable ride. I do a lot of touring but around 50-60 mph
