79 gs850 rear rotor interchangeability

Hey guy, just got my 850 running and I need to replace the rear rotor. After doing some searching here and on ebay I am a little conflicted. I know other models in the same year share this rear rotor, but I have heard that some of the early 80's bikes with slotted rotors would fit up as well. Is this a better option and what years/models of bikes could I get the disk off of? Thanks!

You know, so many parts are the same on the rear wheel assemblies between the '79 - '81 GS850G (axle, bearings, spacers, caliper bracket, etc) that I would hazard a guess that the rotors would exchange too. It's possible that the only difference reflected in the part numbers would be the fact that the '80 and later are slotted. Here are the other bikes that use the same rear brake rotor part number as the 1980 GS850G...

Now, before you go spending a lot of money on a rotor, hopefully this thread will get bumped and someone else will notice and give their opinion.

If you can pick up a rotor for $5 or so, then give it a try. But if you have to spend tens of dollars then you may want to wait for a more definitive answer.

Thanks Cliff, I guess Im just going to order a semi used one of e-bay from one of the bikes you listed and give it a try. Looks like its going to be about $35 to get one here but I will report back when I get it.
