1977 GS750 tire replacement
Hey folks, first post!.....the manual says that my '77 GS750 should have a 3.25 x 19 on the front and a 4.00 x 18 on the rear. Are 100/90 x 19 and 120/90 x 18 appropriate replacement tires for this bike? Local shop suggested Dunlop D404's.....good price, will mount and balance. Should I just get tires sized the same or go with the metric sizing?Tags: None

Those sizes are fine. 404's are not the greatest tires, but serviceable enough. Most GSR members like the Avon AM26, or Shinko 230 (for value).
Good luck.Ed

The 120 might be too wide, the actual width of the tire can vary from the stated size
If you were going to Avon AM 26s, I'd tell you to go 110 because they are wide
But, give the 404 a try at 120 and see how it wears1978 GS 1000 (since new)

The stock rear wheel on the 750 is 2.15" wide. A 120 fits okay on this size wheel but I wouldn't go wider.Ed

Those tire sizes should be fine. I went as wide as 130 on my 77 GS750 and had no issues with clearance or handling. It just made it a little slow responding. I like Dunlop GT501's; they are supposed to be replacements for the Elites that were so popular on sporting bikes in the 80's. Avons probably stick better but thet also wear faster (typical trade-off).
