    seating tire on bead

So what is a safe pressure to seat the tire on the bead? I've lubricated the tire and bead, and pumped the pressure up to 55 psi. It's a 40 psi tire. 90/90-19 S11 bridgestone. Don't want to blow it up or kill myself doing this.

I usually go to about 50PSI max.

If it doesn't seat, let it down again, put some more lube round the rim & try again. Make sure the rim etc is nice and clean before fitting new tyre.

put a ratcheting tiedown strap around the tire then pressurize the tire. That should help force the tire out. It's generally done when you can't get the tire to hold any air but it works to help seat the beads too.

              go it on

with the rachet strap. Then let the air out to get the strap off and the tire slid off the bead. Pumped it back up to 55 psi, the tire slid back on the bead. Guess it just needed primed. Slid on the bead real slow though. Even with the strap. Rim is just like new. Guess it's cause this is the first tire change.

I had to lightly sand the inner rim on my bike.
There was so much junk in there.

Then only One side of the tire beaded.

Once I soaped it up better, then jumped it to 50psi, it sealed.

You wanna listen for the "pop" noise.
