78 GS1000C rear tire max size

I'm changing my swingarm (to a GS1100E) on my 78 GS1000C (spoker). What is the widest tire I can put on the rear rim? (4" alloy) I currently run old 130/80 Metzelers.

So you have a non-stock rear rim then? 4" vs 2.15" stock?

With a 4" wide rim I think the limitation is going to be clearance in the swingarm and/or the brake arm. Sorry but I can't answer this question positively but people have been know to use a 150 tire using GS1150 rear wheels, not sure if they modified the brake arm though.

Widest or best handling? What rim is it exactly. Im running a 4.25x18 rim on the rear and only using a 140. Cant use a 150 as have chain issues but already have the brake stay dinted for clearance. Its still a fairly big tyre and no chicken strips. Sure you might be able to jam a 160 running a 530 chain but there is a differance between wide tyres and ones that suit
