Tire sizing
Can anyone tell me the factory recommended tire sizing for a 1980 GS1100L? It currently has a 130/16 on the back which seems too wide for the rim.Tags: None

I suggest you go to BassCliff's site and download both the owner's manual and the service manual. Both books should have the correct sizes listed, and they serve lots of other functions as well. He has both of them listed as available for your bike.

Hi,
How wide is your rim?
The usual sizes for most of the larger GS bikes are 100/90-xx on front and 130/90-xx on the rear (where xx=rim diameter). But some models have wider rims than others. You'll find charts for stock sizes and a size conversion table on my little website.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff

A 130 should be no problem on that wheel. Take a look at the side of the wheel and as long as the rim is 2.5" wide or wider, the 130 is fine.Ed
To measure is to know.
