83 gs450 rear drum brake lining wear limit

i am sorry for asking this but how do i read the line? does the marker line have to be on the left end of the spectrum or the right side?

    #2
The indicator turns to the rear of the bike when the pedal is depressed.
The left of the spectrum is the outter limit of wear.

        Is that an ASCII drawing?

You can pull the wheel and measure the lining thickness.
If the indicator is all the way left you will need brakes soon.

I got a pair relined once it was cheaper than new ones.

Just to clarify, left means rear of bike

Your ascii drawing has the marker at the wrong end for liner wear...

I just recently adjusted my rear brake properly, and I found that the indicator with brake off sits towards the front adjustment line, probably a quarter way in or so, and with brake applied it stops something like a quarter way from the rear adjustment line.

          Hope that helps...
