    GS750 Tires?

Im having one heck of a time figuring out what size tires to get for my '79 750L, so I need some help.

Everything I have read, including the link on BassCLiffs website, says that my bike came stock with 3.25-19 in the front, and 4.00-18 in the back.

Why is it that when I look at my sidewalls of the tires, it says I have a 90x76x17 in the back?

    Front:
    MM90-19 61H

    Rear:
    MT90B17 76H

Im looking at getting some Avon Road Riders in the 90/90 v19, and 120/80 v17 variety, but I want to make sure they will not only fit, but that Im getting tires for the right size wheel.

Seems like people suggest a 90/90 i the best in the front, any bigger and you loose feeling.
Ive found conflicting reports of what the back can handle, 110, 120, or even a 130.

Help, Im utterly confused by metric bike tire sizing!

Look for the rim size- should be stamped around the edge or near the hub (on mag wheels).

Your bike came with an 18 in back, so obviously someone changed it.

Look at the sidewall on the rear rim and tell us what size it is. Most likely it will say 2.5 x 17, in which case you can run a 130/90-17 rear tire. A 120 would be okay too but why not use the widest possible? For the front I recommend a 100/90-19. I don't know what you are reading about a 90 being better, about 80% of the GSR folk use a 100 front and think it's the proper fit.

Edit: apparently the Suzuki parts fishe is wrong, stating 18" wheel when the bikes came with a 17". Sorry to have spread bad information.

Looks like I have a 2.50 rear wheel, so I guess I can fit a 130. Will it clear the swing arm and other things?

Not sure where I saw people recommending a 90/90, so I will go with a 100/90-19.

What ever you do, DON'T BUY THE 18! It seems there is a dead spot in the GS750 service zone. I did a very dumb thing and ordered tires online using info that is dead wrong. Everything I read said 18 was the standerd but when I got home to my house and new tires, but I got everything apart.. FML.. it is a 17 inch rim. The metric crossover is a 120(130)/90-17R I think.

            DON'T get the R.

That would be a radial tire, these rims and bikes will not properly handle a radial.

The proper size for the front is 100/90-19, you might see either an H or V speed rating.

The proper size for the rear is 130/90-17, again either an H or V rating.

It looks like they make the Avon Road Rider in the 130/90-17, but they do not make it in the 100/90-19.

Closest they have is a 90/90-19.

Also went out and took a look at my bike today to check swingarm clearances, and the tire swing arm looks awfully close...

Also looks like I need to run a tube since my wheels are not stamped for tubeless.

Yes they do. The Avon RoadRider 100/90-19 is listed with the rear tires.

The Avon RR in 100/90-19 is designed so that it can be used on the front or rear -- there are two direction arrows, so you mount it one way if it's on the front and the other way on the rear.

Many sellers are not aware of this, or do not have a good way to list these properly in their databases, so they can be a little hard to find.

I think 130 is too big. I went with 120 rear and like it. +1 on avon having front and rear as the same. Check out motorcycle superstore

That was the rear brake torque arm that was close to the tire.
