Rear Braided Brake line -- dressing

I'm going to replace the rear brake line in my 82 GS1100E with a stainless steel braided one. The stock one has springs and extra cushions (looks like rubber hose) on it to help it fit nicely into the brackets on the swing arm. Should I reinstall the springs and rubber hose? Any other suggestions on how it can be dressed and installed securely would be welcome. Does anyone have any pics of a previous installation.

    Thank You

I re-used the old rubber sleeves, just slitting them length-wise. Didn't worry about the springs. If your new braided hoses are smaller in diameter, you might need to use some slit fuel hose or similar to help take up the slack. Is your new SS line coated or raw SS on the outside? Raw SS could scratch the finish of areas it comes in contact with.

The protective springs are not needed since the outer stainless braid cover protects the internal hose.

A piece of rubber hose over the new line is a good idea since the stainless/teflon lines are smaller diameter than OE and the clamps won't hold the line securely. If you build your own lines using Earl's components you can slide the hose over the line before the hose ends are attached. If you are using premade brake lines, you can still use the hose, but it will have to be slit first before you can install it over the hose.
