1983 GS750E Swingarm length vs 1985 and newer Swingarm length

I have searched but can't find it now, but I could swear that I read on here that the swingarm is a little longer on the 85 and up 700/750 when compared to the 83. Anyone know if it is and by how much ?

Could you look at the stock chain/sprocket sizes for each? If the chain is longer, the the swinger should be longer as well.

That might have been from me. I've got two arms, one of each and the '85 700 arm is about 3/4 of an inch longer than the '83 750 one. I've had the two side by side on my garage floor.

Oh, and the extra length is at the rear section of it.

            Thanks Dee.

I's it such that the wheel rides farther back or is it behind the axle?

              Wheel rides further back.

Wonder why they changed it ?

                More stable handling ?

I was wondering the same thing when I put a 83 arm in my 85 750(Canadian).Think in 83 it was a cutting edge bike, later it was less so.The triples are different to,found that out trying to use a 83 upper with the 85 lower..At this point mine is a 85 with 83 spec suspension.

Hmmm wish I'd known then when doing my build, the extra length would have made things easier
