    1979 gs 1000 chain and sprockets

    Very simple question however after doing some research and searching on this site I have confused myself and want to get this correct the first time. Im goin to do a 530 conversion on my bike and was planning on ordering from Z-1. What is the easiest combo to order for a bolt on and go. I see there is a split link chain and a 116 link chain. I have mocked up a order and it goes somethin like this

    I am looking for so low end... hence the less teeth. I jus want to know if I have got the right stuff....

      Well, you have several issues in your post. let me try to address them as i see them:
      First, you want to change the size if the chain. This is common, you have lots more choices of chain brands and qualities when going to 530.
      Second, you have the opportunity to change the gear ratio at the same time (shafties, eat your heart out). A lower ratio (higher numerically) will give you a better take off, a higher ratio will give better fuel economy. Some claim that master-linked chains have a tendency to break at the link, but I disagree if the link is assembled correctly.
      If you do go with a master link, however, you should order a second, as they are very chain-specific.
      So, consider your goals, (low end I take it to mean that you want more power at take off) and your costs, and go for it.

        Well im glad i posted... Looks like I want to go with more teeth (higher numerically) for more low end. As far as the front sprocket spacer am I spot on there? Anyone have any "package" bolt on links or websites for quality cheaper alternatives??

          Yes, for more low-end power you want a higher numerically ratio, front to back. Z1 should be able to set you on the path. Not sure on the spacer, but they also have lots'o' experience on this also.
