Pic of Front Tire on GS1000GL?
Does anyone have one available? I've remounted the speedo about 5 times and although it fits the groove and seems to be working, I don't think I've got it on right. The manual shows that the cable should be coming straight out the back towards the bike but mine is headed down towards the ground. Thanks!Tags: None

Hi,
Just loosen the axle bolt a little and turn the speedo drive assembly where you want it. Then tighten it back up. As long as the tabs are in the slots you're good.
Thank you for your indulgence,

I was trying to do that while I had the bike in the air but there seemed to be a "stop" there somehow; I could only turn it to a certain point. I'll have to give it a go when I drop the bike down onto the tires after work. Is there a trick to it?

My wife's 850L speedo drive points rather downward, too.
No problems in the years that we have had it.

My speedo's all point downward as well - the fork leg prevents the speedo hsg from being aligned level. Just make sure you didn't pinch the speedo hsg with the fork leg.'85 GS550L - SOLD

On the GL models, it points down an back at an angle -- maybe about 45 degrees or so. On the G models, it's straight back.
It's explained in the manual... might want to take a peek at that.
Here's a large photo of Tim and one of his fleet of GLs showing the loop the speedo cable forms...
