Rear shocks bottoming when 2 up

Is there any recommendation that you would have as to some stronger shocks?

I like to ride with my wife quite often, and we're neither of us very light, admittedly. We both weigh 200-220 or so, and when riding 2 up on my GS750L, the shocks bottom out with any good bump, and when that happens in a corner, my exhaust scrapes.

Is there any suggestion you'd have as to a stronger shock that could support us? Especially since we plan on doing some longer distance in the future, and so luggage might exceed 50lbs. With that being the case, that's almost 500lbs load on the bike and that is a little bit heavy for these current shocks.

Solo, the bike is solid, a bit stiff even, but when 2up, it's a bit much for the stock shocks.

Progressive suspension shocks with the heavy duty springs?
I have a set that has been on my 750E for over 100,000 miles and I still never have to go past the 3rd pre-load setting with my wife and cargo.
    We weight about 300 combined.

      Shocks

I have a 1979 GS750L with the same problem. The bike is rated for about 450 lbs and I weigh 180. My wife is 220. The only thing you can do is get new and/or heavier springs and turn the spring retainer up to the top notch making them tighter to begin with. We took a trip from Colorado Springs to Jackson Hole and had a severe case of bike butt....but, it was a fun ride.

You need new shocks -- the stock Suzuki bits are dangerous, worn out crap.

If you go with Progressive shocks, they list "regular" and "heavy duty" springs. Neither of these are adequate for a solo rider over 200 pounds, let alone with a passenger.

What you need to do is order the bare 12 series shocks along with the 120/170 springs intended for a Kawasaki Voyager. This is what's on my GS850, and they work perfectly -- on the first or second click by myself, and the fourth or fifth click with my wife and luggage aboard.

Nice, thank you very much on that.

Do you know where I can get them at a good price?

I just ordered a pair of hagon shocks from David Quinn (great guy, fast shipping, good price.)

My wife and I are a bit lighter, but we just got back from a 1,200 mile trip, two up with a bunch of luggage. I think the bike handled better, even with all that extra weight than it ever did before i upgraded.

Call up Dave and tell him your weight and preferences and he'll make a recommendation. I am very happy with my purchase.

You can find them $5 to $10 cheaper at a few sketchy catalog web sites that don't actually stock anything. DK ships the same day for free, and they list the number in stock right there on the web site.

Also an excellent recommendation, and the total cost for a set of Hagons is about the same as a set of Progressives.

Also take a look at IKONs...my wife and I had the same issue two up on the 1100E...
IKON asked for weights and riding style when we ordered them and they installed the correct springs for us.

We've been very pleased with them and the price is only slightly higher than the Progressives...

I also put an IKON on the BMW with good results.
