    Tire rotation direction

My tiny mind just doesn't get this - does someone have an explanation?

My new front tire is for the front or rear and is mounted in alternate direction depending on that location. If mounted on the rear the tread pattern will push water away from the tire but when on the front surely the reverse is true - confused.

I don't think it has to do with water dispersion, more to do with driven vs. non-driven. The tire can be used in a front or rear application. When used in a front application it will see only braking force. When used in the rear it will see both drive and braking forces but primarily drive force. The tire is designed to perform best when acting in a certain rotation relative to the primary (or only) force it will see, thus it will be mounted the opposite way for front or rear fitment.

At least this is how it has been explained to me......

    Thanks,

I like it Joe, that's good enough for me. But it sure does look funny having opposite tread patterns on your bike.

Back in the day of universal tread patterns it was the general rule to mount them in opposite directions.
