Wider tire for GS550ES
Hey my friends, is there a wheel from another GS that will direct fit my ES that will allow a fatter tire. The 550ES is a nice looking bike except when viewed from the rear. I was following my grandson who was riding my 550ES and it looks like the bike in going down the road on black wheels with no tires. I won't be changing anything soon as I just installed a new set of Pirelli sp. Demon's on the current wheels. Would like to put a fatter tire on the rear if safety is not compromised. Thanks much all for any light you can shed on this topic.

The 2.15" wide wheel on your bike limits max tire width to 120.Ed
To measure is to know.

Yes I know that the present wheel limits the tire size, but I am hoping that someone else has fitted a wider rear wheel to the 550ES with some modifications to allow a wider tire.
Thanks much, Gizmo

What year 550? And why would looks be a factor in tire fitment?
Sad reason for making an "upgrade"

My GS550ES is a 1984 model. The fact that I want a wider tire look on the back of my bike is a personal preference. I prefer a balanced look to my bikes and this is one of the areas on my bike and is not a SAD excuse. To each his own.

I have a gs550 with 130's on the rear.
It has a very wide look from the rear.
But I didn't install the tire...the PO did it.
The bike came with a blown piston, from the PO doing constant burn-outs.
(possibly linked to motor-strain of an oversized tire?)
The 130's definitely walk over the rim pretty good, personally I wouldn't ride it.
The larger tire will heavily affect your Leaning abilities.
