Seating rear tire on1980 GS550e
What am I doing wrong..1980 550E with alloy wheels . Using Shinko 712 with tubes for F/R tires.Front tire was mounted without problems. However, I can't get the rear tire 110/90H-18 to seat properly on the rim. Approximately 1/8 of the tire bead is setting in the inner grove of the rim . It almost looks like the tire is a little too small. I tried several lubricants and even silglide Any ideal how I can get the tire to cooperate?

To measure is to know.

40 lbs of pressure isn't likely to get the bead to seat. You might have to use 60 or more to get it to seat.

I didn't go above 40 because the front one seated very easily.
What would be the upper limit psi to seat the tire?

I wouldn't go more than about 60. Do you have the valve removed from the stem? Removing it helps if you haven't. Try inflating and deflating a few times to get it to seat.

And use real tire lube on both the rim and tire.Ed

55-60 PSI and Tire lube all around worked like a charm...almost too simple.Looking at the tire closely I noticed that the sidewall has a ring on the perimeter to indicate if tire is seated properly.
Thanks to all for the help.

Good deal, it's always nice when someone comes back to post up the results. So many get their answers and never post again.
