    Top Shock Mount

    Hi,

Is the threaded top shock mount on a 79 GS750E a stud that can be removed from the frame?

I've got one that is really chewed up. I haven't tried to unscrew it yet.

I was looking at the parts fiche at Bike Bandit, and they don't show that stud as a separate part.

I'm worried that I'll need to have something welded to the frame.

    Thanks.

Please let us know what bike you are referring, please.
Quick answer, it is usually welded. Best option is to cut it off, drill and tap it in that case.
I saw the 750 in your intro, is that the bike? Best thing to do is put it in your signature (User CP, upper left menu item).

I edited the original post, and added the bike to my sig.

That's would be a drag if it needs to be cut off.

It's not tough really. Cut it off, grind it flush, drill a hole and bring a bolt through from the back. Run a bead of weld on the backside and it's done.

I had a busted post, and it was busted clean off where the nut tightens down on the shock.
That post is part of the frame, anyway I took the bike to a fabricator who welded and extension to it, so far so good. He charged me $10.
