    Front fork magic

    Dear GS wizards,

I'm trying to change the seals and the springs in my GS1000G front fork. Dismantling was not so difficult until now....

The top looks like this, it was only covered by een rubber cap, nothing else.

The bottom looks like this, nothing much to do here I guess

How to open the little bastard so I can remove the old spring and replace it with a NOS spring?

    TIA

    Hi,

    Push the top cap down.

There is a circlip (ring) that must be removed. Use a sharp object (screwdriver, circlip pliers) to carefully dig it out. Once the circlip is out the cap can be removed along with the springs, spacers, etc.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

Are you serious That must be a sneaky little thing then. I will take a look and let you know if I've found em.

Found it! Under a cubic inch of rust was indeed a very tiny circlip.
It's late now over here, almost 12 at night, so tomorrow I'll try to get it out.

        Thanks!
