    bandit swingarms rear wheel questions

    I have done a little digging and can't really find the info I'm looking for. I am modifying the suspension on a 78 gs1000e to a 93 gsrx1100 usd forks set up. we also want to change out the rear to a bandit swingarm. what i am wondering is what year and CC's swingarm to use, or does it matter?

    the bike is being set up as a track bike for my brother. he is wanting a 180 rear tire. that is the reason for the bandit mod.

    another question, i am putting the same 93 gsxr1100 forks on my 81 gs1100e i was thinking of running a 160 rear tire as opposed to the 130 i run now. I have seen that a 4.5 wheel is what i want. the question is what year/model bikes used the 4.5 wheel.

    Ooof good luck on that rear end swap for your bro... All the Bandits use a mono shock rear end similar to the 90's GSX-Rs. Sooo If your swapping the rear end your going to need to do some major frame surgery, custom mounts and possibly other things. I'm not a 100% sure but I think the B-6 and B-12s all had the same rear swing arm.(Sorry only really know allot about the B-12s) I do know the 1200s got the bigger tire and beefier suspension, The Bandit 400s used something completely different in the rear and in general have not much in common to it's big brothers.
    However I want to note that a Bandit shock is no way ideal for track! With a B-12 setup I'd run with a 91-98 (I believe) GSX-R 1100 shock, it's a direct bolt on. It will give much better response than the softer Bandit shock and will lower the bike...

    Don't know the answer to your other Q's...

      Check out Posplayr's build. Bandit swinger does not need to be mOnoshock but you will have to have shock mounts welded to it and some conversion top hat spacers for the pivot.

      He runs a 170 but on a 4.5" x18" rim. I believe that it gets tight between chain and frame, you may need to relieve the inside of the frame and brace or use a thin 520 chain (thinnest is 18.6mm, it's been documented here before in 80GS1000's build) to get the clearance you need for the 180.
      Offset sprocket is going to be a must too...

      I had same issues with my 750. Ran a 170 on a 5.5" x17" on that and had no room for the 180.

        Thanks salty, I know I seen a few conversions. I don't plan on using monoshocks. I did check with Katmans site to see if he had anything for sale, but no luck at this time.

          What about a Metmachex swinging arm? Better than Bandit (and shiney too). Plug and play.
