    Suspension suggestions for '84 GSX400E

    Hi, first post here.

I just picked up a 1984 GSX400E the other day for $500. Runs fine and other than a few dash light issues and a couple of aesthetics it seems to be in pretty good shape.

The front forks, however, definitely need the seals done. Before I jump in and do that, however, I wanted to get a sense of how good they are to begin with. Ultimately over time I would like to beef the whole bike up a bit, suspension, tires, maybe tackle the engine or drop a 500 in, and probably take it the Cafe Racer direction. One step at a time though.

Starting with the suspension: I would like to hear arguments for the different upgrade options. Everything from "don't bother the stock is great," to "put in progressive springs," or even "throw them away and replace them with the forks from a ______." I would like to end up with something that in combination with some good tires will allow for a fairly agressive sporty ride. Please include paired recommendations for the rear suspension as well if necessary.

And for fun here is a pic of the bike and a little photoshop concept of where I would like to take it one day.
