Ikon shocks on a GS650G

Has anyone here put Ikon shocks on a GS650G? The shock recommended by Ikon is too long (14.45" vs 13.5"). Ikon received conflicting data regarding my bike from Koni years ago. They will make custom lengths but if anyone here has a part number that is known to work, I can start there instead of full custom.

Hagon says that is a 12.95" shock, so it is shorter than the one I measured. Their spec sheet has a few shocks that are closer to 13.5".

To further confuse myself, I checked specs from other manufacturers.

Works Performance recommends a 13.5" shock and states that the shock is slightly longer than stock. Progressive recommends 12-1203B (13.5") and claims that the shock is slightly shorter than stock.

Emgo recommends a 13.2" shock. And I found a no-name 13 3/16" shock too.

Suzuki was no help because they only provide part numbers (62100-34X00 at $500 each!) and not a length. Babbits says this shock was only used on the 81-83 GS650G.

I don't think a slightly shorter shock would cause serious difficulties, but it would be nice to know the length of the OEM shock.

Just measured my stock '82 'G' shock, fully extended (on centerstand), 13.75.

I bought some Hagons from Dave Quinn, whatever size they are they are fine.

Suzuki tends to put the dimensions of parts in their OEM part number, I'd guess they are 340mm shocks based on the "34". That works out to be 13.39"

I never thought of that. New part is 62100-34X00, old part was 62100-34240, both with the 34. I can get 340mm shocks from Hagon or Ikon and they would be very close to the 13.5" I measured.

Thanks for the extra info. I'm dithering between Hagons and Ikons. I like the Ikons because they are rebuildable but I also like the Hagons because they are a lot less expensive. Both companies have 340mm (13.5") shock bodies available. I'm waiting for replies about recommended springs.

This is a total newb question, but if one were to put shorter than stock shocks on, would that have any negative effects other than lowering the bike?

If I could afford 'em, I'd go with the Ikons, based on past happy experiences on my '78 750C
