    GS1000 . easiest 17" wheel conversion??

    1979 Suzuki GS1000

What is the easiest 17" wheel conversion?
Just something straight forward for better tyre choice.

    Anyone???

If you're talking about modern 17" wheels (and I believe you are), any Suzuki wheels from GSX and GSXR will convert at the rear - they just need to have new spacers

You bike will need the ally 1100 swing arm to accept these wheels

At the front, you need an entire front end. Same era, minor changes to the steering stops except for Bandits, their triple is different

    So, you need:

    1. 1100 swing arm
    2, Rear wheel (limited to 5"or 5.5")
    3. Front end
    4. Machinist
    1978 GS 1000 (since new)
1979 GS 1000 (The Fridge, superbike replica project)
    1978 GS 1000 (parts)
    1981 GS 850 (anyone want a project?)
    1981 GPZ 550 (backroad screamer)
    1970 450 Mk IIID (THUMP!)
    2007 DRz 400S
    1999 ATK 490ES
    1994 DR 350SES

your bike has an after market swingarm..yes?....I have an alloy one off an 1100 kat and will measure the inside sizes if you want, to make sure you have space for the bigger wheel/tyre in it on your aftermarket one...ie if yours is the same or bigger your quids in

I did an '88 GSX600f on my '78 GS1000. The rear wheel just needed a spacer adjustment and I used the GSX600 brake setup with it, also easy. The front end was an entire swap because the brake disc is much larger on the GSX. But the wheel without the discs fit in no problem.

I'm sure you're aware but the bike sits lower with the 17's on, especially with a different front end. The forks on the GSX600 are shorter.

Bandit are gs length or near as makes no difference (1200 bandit anyway) but you'll have to have the stem from the bandit pressed out of the triple and a GS stem pressed in or have it machined down as its longer...

What about using 94-08 RF-900 trees? They had 43mm forks like the GSX1200.
Not sure on the stem length but the bearings are right.

The easiest swap would be a set of 17" wheels from a GS500 & stick with the stock forks/swingarm in my opinion....

Of course if it's width that you're after these won't work....

I have a set of forks and triples of a GS1100GK, they are 43mm and wider than normal...I hope to get a wider wheel in but getting stuff for them over here in the UK is hard
