Upgrade GS1000L bakes?

My 79 L goes "OK"... but it doesn't stop OK...
The rt frt caliper is leaking a little, and the seal/boot looks like it got shredded, I could see this before I took it off the bike.
SO the ??? is... before I spend some $$$ on replacement parts, can I get better stopping power by swapping out some parts?
( I know the 33 year old hoses are the first thing to go )
I know there is at least one guy here on GSR selling brackets to let you use ninja or CBR rotors and calipers... But not for my -L- model.
ANY ideas or thoughts ?
I'm not racing or anything, just looking for enough stopping power to feel comfy driving here in NJ.

Any preferred vendor for the hoses?

Had same problem with my gs750l brakes(same front end as yours),stripped and cleaned whole system dug out gunge and jelly ,set of new pads ,what a transformation.The kevlar pads have taken 2-300km to bed in but tonights ride home in the rain showed me how bad undrilled discs can be in the wet fu***n scary to say the least .Gonna get drilling this weekend as cannot afford time to upgrade discs and find and adapt suitable calipers at mo but keeping eye out for caliper candidates.

I was about to order some "custom stainless braided" hoses, but ...
for $9 each, I'll try these first. Free shipping !

I measure 2 my lower hoses as 23.75" long... these look like 24", and seem to have the same banjo fittings/orientation as my lines.
3-10 days from now, I'll let you know how they worked out.

You won't like it. If you wish to waste your money, fine. But there is no comparison to a stainless steel line. Sorry, but cheaper is seldom better.

My lines were too long after new bars and were showing age, so I took that as a sign to rebuild the entire system and make some SS lines. Everything I needed to know was found here: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/...-ends.html#A03

Nessism was good enough to put together the guide and a list of the usual parts as you would find from Earl's. Easy as all get out to do and they are sexy to boot.
