    Difference between model "D" & "Z"?

I was looking at parts online for my GS1100GL, and they list both a model "D" & "Z" for the same year and model. What is the difference?

There are substantial similarities between your '82 bike and the '83 bikes.
Some of the parts that fit the '82 bikes (like yours) might be just a bit different for the '83 bikes, so would have a different part number, but be on the same fiche.
One example would be the gas tank and side covers. They fit, but have different colors and stripes.

The '82 bikes have the "Z" designation at the end of the bike name, the '83 bikes have a "D".

Technically speaking, you have a GS 1100GLZ, meaning that it's an '82 1100GL.

Thanks (too) Steve. I have wondered about that also when I look up parts for my '82.

I always seem to learn SOMETHING when I check in here!
