Tyre is a Dunlop Elite Sport. Lots of tread but I think it's too old to ride on (even though the guy I got it from said it was quite new & he'd only put a few hundred miles on it... I have an idea it might be a take-off he got at a breakers yard... (salvage).

What age is this Tyre?
I'm guessing old.... I'm not familiar with this numbering system but these two are the only marks like it. They are on the brake side of the rear tyre.

That looks more like a model or batch code from the manufacturer..the DOT code is usually in a oval with like 4 numbers in it.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
1978 GS 1000 E, 1979 GS 1000 S, 1973 Yamaha TX 750, 1977 Kawasaki KZ 650B1, 1975 Honda GL1000 Goldwing, 1983 CB 650SC Nighthawk, 1972 Honda CB 350K4, 74 Honda CB550
NEVER SNEAK UP ON A SLEEPING DOG..NOT EVEN YOUR OWN.
I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

Date codes were in use back in the 70s.
Dan, at the top of the second picture I see the letters DOT. They should be followed by several numbers and/or letters, then a separate block that might have three or four numbers. That is the date code block. What is in that block?
.sigpic
mine: 2000 Honda GoldWing GL1500SE and 1980 GS850G'K' "Junior"
hers: 1982 GS850GL - "Angel" and 1969 Suzuki T250 Scrambler
#1 son: 1986 Yamaha Venture Royale 1300 and 1982 GS650GL "Rat Bagger"
#2 son: 1980 GS1000G

Steve the second picture preceeds the first. So the only molded in markings that aren't a permanent (i.e. they have a border round them like this to signify a changeable block in the tyre mould tool) are these 2.
It reads:
41-23-41 DOT DA1X M23254
I'm wondering if the if it's an 84/94. Whatever at this stage it's kind of a non-issue it's exact date as I won't be riding on it or recommending that anyone else does... If it was from this century I may have put a couple thousand on it as my Avon is getting close to being done & I need to organise my wheel swap to get the next set on (I'm going to try Avon Azuro Radials) and have been a bit stuck for time.

GateKeeper
I found this if it helps to determine the date
Look at the date code for the tire on the sidewall (Dunlop HD example):
DOT DATR M2AM XXYY
XX = Week of manufacture
YY = Year of manufacture
DOT DATR M2AM 1607 = 16th week of 2007
Different brands may have the location of the DOT code, but its required to be on the tire by US law.
