Cockeyed swingarm?

80 GS1000E...new to me bike
The swing arm is about 3/8 to 1/2 inch closer to the chain side rear footpeg bracket. If I let it down without shocks or a tire on it would hit that bracket but not on the other side.All stock bike.No signs of an accident.
Problem? Is there a way to adjust this?
Bearings looked/felt normal.

are all your spacers and caps on ? by caps I mean the ones that cover the bearings, I know mine had them....

Chances are it's the other way round - your footpeg bracket is closer to the swinging arm. Some left the factory like it, some got bent later. If it's wearing an alloy swinging arm from a GSX then somebody probably bent it later so the new arm would fit and didn't take too much care.

The only way to check is by lining the bike up and measuring a straight line against the front wheel - like you do when you adjust your chain.

If it's all square just bend the thing out.

Caps are on,stock swinger.I will do some measuring on the footpeg bracket,see if it's out of alignment.I'll get pics if that is not the issue.
