    GS500 front tire ??.

I'm looking to buy a GS500 for my wife and we will be going to Prudue Bay next year.I want to run DS tires up there and probably Shinko 705's or maybe TKC's.The 500 front is a 110/17 but the Shinko and the TKC's only go down to a 120/17,will a 120 fit on a 500???.

A friend of mine accidentally ordered a 120/70-17 front for a GS500, and it worked fine.

No idea if the knobs on the 705 will fit, though.

There's a moderator on the GSTwins site that has a large spreadsheet of what tires he has tried. Might be worth searching around for?

I recall there were some problems fitting different sizes or types of tires up front - I think it was the fender that was rubbing? For what it's worth, here's a link to a dual sport GS500 build:

I registered at GSTwins and I'm just waiting for a email saying I'm in.
Fender clearence is not a problem,I will just mount a high fender.

All depends on rim width... I have a 1.60 x 18 rim on my 450 and run a Pirelli Scorpion Trail 100/90-18 on it which is fine, but a 110 would be scary big for it.

The rear rim is a 1.85 x 18 which easily runs a 4.10-18 Pirelli Scorpion MT90 A/T (can't get a suitable Trail for the rear).

So if the front rim width is 1.85 or wider I'd suspect the 120 would be ok...

Oh, and as for tyre quality and grip I love the Scorpions... front is 95/5 road/dirt and rear is 70/30 but I've never had an issue with grip on the road.

The only downside is the rear is getting close to done after about 6000km's...
